Sri Lanka have claimed their first Test series success over Australia in 17 years after winning the second Test by 229 runs in Galle.
The Aussies hung around until just after lunch before Peter Nevill was run out for 24 to give the Asians the victory and an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series.
The Baggy Greens began the day teetering on 25-3 in pursuit of an unlikely 413 runs for victory but were all out for 183, with man of the match Dilruwan Perera claiming 6-70 and 10 wickets in the match.
David Warner was first to go for 41, while Steve Smith's dismissal for 30 left the tourists on 80-5 and the writing was on the wall.
Adam Voges (28), Mitchell Marsh (18) and Mitchell Starc (26) all got starts but failed to push on, as Rangana Herath ended with two wickets to add to the four he claimed in the first innings.
The sides will play one final Test in Colombo from August 13 and Australia skipper Smith admitted that his men are finding it tough.
"It's incredibly hard to play against. Particularly coming from Australia, it's very foreign," he said. "It's very challenging. We have a lot of work to do."
